Mirait awarded ARTC Inland Rail contract by Telstra

Mirait Technologies Australia has been awarded a contract with Telstra to perform all relocation activities within the Telstra network that are affected by track build and upgrade activities for the 1,700km ARTC Inland Rail. This is a significant achievement that recognises Mirait’s ability to deliver major projects on time, to budget, with a high level of compliance and quality. Mirait has commenced work on the Parkes to Narromine “P2N” section, one of 13 distinct projects, including one in Victoria, seven in NSW, and five in Queensland. Most of the work is the full rebuild of rail tracks, rail formation and supporting structures in the existing rail corridor.

The 1,700km project from Tottenham, Victoria to Acacia Ridge, Queensland, will enable the use of double-stacked, 1,800m long trains with a 21-tonne axle load at a maximum speed of 115km/h, 10 hours faster than the existing coastal rail network via Sydney. Each train will be able to carry the equivalent freight volume of 110 B-double trucks, which will help reduce congestion on our highways and allow for increased passenger rail services in the busy Sydney network. Shorter transit times will reduce supply chain costs by $10 per tonne for inter-capital freight travelling between Melbourne and Brisbane, which will mean greater savings for consumers. Up to 16,000 jobs will be created at the peak of construction and there will be 700 ongoing jobs once operational.
